Free Latest 2008 Infosys Placement Papers On 26th MARCH at LUCKNOW
Complete 2008 Infosys Placement Papers On 26th MARCH at LUCKNOW Hi friends….. This is SAURABH from BBDNITM, LUCKNOW…. I attended infosys on campus placement test on 19 th feb, 2008 held at SRMCEM,LUCKNOW. I would LOVE to share my experience with u & hope it would prove very valuable for u in the upcoming period Around 700 students attended the test and out of them 62 were finally selected frommy college out of 70 who were through APTI And due to Gods grace I was one among them. The Selection consists of 2 Phases :- In which, written test consists of two phases:- 1) APTITUDE: 2) Replace an underlined sentence with another one which is of the same meaning from the given 4 alternatives. 2) Verbal Reasoning (English) :- INTERVIEW: Some basic puzzles like AN APTI OF COURSE FROM RESHERS WORLD TO RELIEVE U FROM SEARCHING On a rolling 6 dice,it is found that 1. What is the maximum possible total numbers on the faces, if the three dice having same number show 2?
a) Written Test
b) HR Interview
30 questns in 40 minutes..
5 questns about arithmetical reasoning
5 questns on series completion (figure)
5 questns on puzzle test
5 questns on data interpretation (graphs)
3) Fill in the blank with correct alternative. (REFER ANY GRAMMAR BOOK HAVING TENSES )
4) Deriving conclusion from small passages.
5 questns on data sufficiency…….. and rst I dnt remember as I am writing it after around 10 days of the test..but anwz aptitude section wz easy….jst R.S. Aggrwal is very much sufficient for written test I can say R.S.Aggarwal is sufficient for all companies written test. JUS GO THROUGH IT. IT'S REALLY HELPFUL.
While answering questns u hav to keep the time in mind…. bcoz time management plays major role in these type of papers IN verbal section ur english knowledge is checked.
1) Two RC's, a very big one and time consuming so attempt them at the end .(refer BARONS GRE )
5) Select the correct statement from the set of 4 statements. One is correct and some r with little grammatical mistake. .(REFER ANY GRAMMAR BOOK HAVING TENSES ) After Completion Of paper, Result is declared after 2hrs….and my name is in the list.
AS there were a no of students so i have to wait a lot.firstly the students of srmcem were called after that MPEC , then after NIEC and at last BBDNITM. AT 10.00 pm i was waiting 4 my turn, a guy was forwarding the form and the apti ans sheet of each student to the interviewer.l asked that guy about the nos scored in apti but he told me that he can't.but he indicated that ur apti went good. At 10.10 pm i entered into the room. The interviewer was an old man of my fathers age. The first ques was are you still awake i responded positively. then he asked me to guess the no of correct ques. attempted by me.I guessed 50 to 60% .dont be over confident.I think my nos must be good enough to be asked and this must be the reason for unconventional interview. He first asked me to explain what is software? to a general person. i explained .Bieng confident and fluent is key to success.Wit also matters although PI is general Still to ensure place ment take care.Puzzles will be asked ,to help you guys i m contributing some puzzles. and ques. And at last loads of thanx to freshersworld without it's help it would be really difficult. THANX FRESHERSWORLD.
1. You are given two candles of equal size, which can burn 1hour each. You have to measure 90 minutes with these candles.(There is no scale or clock). Also u r given a lighter.
Ans: 1. First light up the two ends of the 1st candle. When it will burn out light up one end of the second candle. (30+60=90)
2. Try the similar problem to measure 45 minutes.
Ans: First light-up the two ends of the 1st candle and one end of the 2nd candle. When the 1st candle will burn out ,then light up the both ends of the 2nd candle (15+30=45)
3. You r given a thermometer. What can u do by this without measuring the temperature?
Ans: if u put thermometer into a tree it won't grow anymore,will just die off
4. How it is possible to place four points that are equidistance from each other? OR U r a landscape designer and your boss asked u to design a landscape such that you should place 4 trees equidistance from each other. (Distance from each tree to the other must be same)

Ans: temp varies with height. but its dependent on various other factors like humidity, wind etc.
9 What is the height of room if after entering the room with a watch ur head strikes a hanging bulb?
Ans: Oscillate the hanging bulb. Calculate the time period for one complete oscillation by Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) of the handing bulb. Put it in the formula T=2 * 3.14 * (L/G)^1/2 L will be the length of the hanging thread. Add the L with ur height to get the height of the room.

Ans: We get 'g' perfect 10 which is only in poles…hence polar bear…color White
11. How will you measure height of building when you are at the top of the building? And if you have stone with you.
Ans: Drop the stone and find the time taken for the stone to reach the ground. find height using the formula s = gt*t/2 ( s = height, a= initial velocity=0, g=9.8m/s, t = time taken)
12. How wud u catch and receive a ball in same direction? (Dropping is from north and receiving from bottom not accepted, as it is 2 directions)

Sol) Let no. of fish x catches=p
no. caught by y =r
r=5p.
r+p=42
then p=7,r=35
suppose total income is 100
so amount x is getting is 80
y is 70
z =60
total=210
but total money is 300
300-210=90
so they are getting 90 rs less
90 is 30% of 300 so they r getting 30% discount
Sol) incomes:3:4

ans: -1
bcoz g(2)=g(1)-g(0)=1+1=2
g(3)=1
g(4)=-1
g(5)=-2
g(6)=-1
Sol) A can copy 50 pages in 10 hrs.
A can copy 5 pages in 1hr.(50/10)
now A & B can copy 70 pages in 10hrs.
thus, B can copy 90 pages in 10 hrs.[eqn. is (50+x)/2=70, where x–> no. of pages B can copy in 10 hrs.]
so, B can copy 9 pages in 1hr.
therefore, to copy 26 pages B will need almost 3hrs.
since in 3hrs B can copy 27 pages.
A, B and C are 8 bit no's. They are as follows:
A -> 1 1 0 0 0 1 0 1
B -> 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 1
C -> 0 0 1 1 1 0 1 0 ( - =minus, u=union)
Find ((A - C) u B) =?
To find A-C, We will find 2's compliment of C and them add it with A,
That will give us (A-C)
2's compliment of C=1's compliment of C+1
=11000101+1=11000110
A-C=11000101+11000110
=10001001
Now (A-C) U B is .OR. logic operation on (A-C) and B
10001001 .OR . 00110011
The answer is = 10111011,
Whose decimal equivalent is 187.
Sol) it's a 9×7 int array so it reqiure a 126 bytes for storing.b'ze integer value need 2 byes of memory allocation. and starting add is 3000
so starting add of 2×3 will be 3012.
Sol) initial x (1,1) = 3000 u hav to find from x(8,1)so u have x(1,1),x(1,2) … x(7,7) = so u have totally 7 * 7 = 49 elementsu need to find for x(8,5) ? here we have 5 elements each element have 4 bytes : (49 + 5 -1) * 4 = 212 —–( -1 is to deduct the 1 element ) 3000 + 212 = 3212
Sol) M=sqrt(100N)
N is increased by 1%
therefore new value of N=N + (N/100)
=101N/100
M=sqrt(100 * (101N/100) )
Hence, we get M=sqrt(101 * N)
2.OXYGEN———– WATER ——- B. A Type of
3.SHOP STAFF——- FITTERS—— C. NOT A TYPE OF
4. BUG ————-REPTILE—— D. A SUPERSET OF

a bus cover 27 mile with 18 mph in =27/18= 1 hour 30 min. and it wait at stand =30 min.
after this speed of return increase by 50% so 50%of 18 mph=9mph
Total speed of returnig=18+9=27
Then in return it take 27/27=1 hour
then total time in joureny=1+1:30+00:30 =3 hour
so it will come at 8+3 hour=11 a.m.
So Ans==11 a.m
Sol) Here, the address of first element x[1][1] is 1258 and also 2 byte of memory is given. now, we have to solve the address of element x[5][8], therefore, 1258+ 5*8*2 = 1258+80 = 1338 so the answer is 1338.
Sol) Let highest temp be x
so low temp=1/3 of x of 1/2 of x plus x/2 i.e. x/6+x/2
total temp=x+x/6+x/2=100
therefore, x=60
Lowest temp is 40
Sol) In equestion first put t=9,
we will get 34.5………………………(1)
now put t=4,

so ans=34.5-27
=7.5
a) 780 b) 1040 c) 1590 d) 1720
Sol) x*53-x*35=540=> x=30 therefore, 53*30=1590 Ans
a) 50 b) 33 c) 16 d) 35
Sol) There is a simple way to answer this kind of Q's given 2x+3y=100, take l.c.m of 'x' coeff and 'y' coeff i.e. l.c.m of 2,3 ==6then divide 100 with 6 , which turns out 16 hence answer is 16short cut formula— constant / (l.cm of x coeff and y coeff)
a) 65 b) 55 c) 50 d) 45
Sol)
Let a = fixed cost and k = variable cost and n = number of boarders
total cost when 25 boarders c = 25*70 = 1750 i.e. 1750 = a + 25k
total cost when 50 boarders c = 50*60 = 3000 i.e. 3000 = a + 50k
solving above 2 eqns, 3000-1750 = 25k i.e. 1250 = 25k i.e. k = 50
therefore, substituting this value of k in either of above 2 eqns we get
a = 500 (a = 3000-50*50 = 500 or a = 1750 - 25*50 = 500)
so total cost when 100 boarders = c = a + 100k = 500 + 100*50 = 5500
so cost per head = 5500/100 = 55
a) 37.5% b) 62.5% c) 50% d) None of these
Sol)
Let, 5 pens + 7 pencils + 4 erasers = x rupees
so 10 pens + 14 pencils + 8 erasers = 2*x rupees
also mentioned, 6 pens + 14 pencils + 8 erarsers = 1.5*x rupees
so (10-6) = 4 pens = (2-1.5)x rupees
so 4 pens = 0.5x rupees => 8 pens = x rupees
so 5 pens = 5x/8 rupees = 5/8 of total (note x rupees is total amt paid byamal)
i.e 5/8 = 500/8% = 62.5% is the answer
Sol)
x + x+6 = rs 68
2x + 6 = 68
2x = 68-6
2x = 62
x=31
x is the amt lost in I race

(ii) 10C1=10 for 10 boxes ….10*10=100
(iii)9C1=9 for 10 boxes …..10*9=90
leaving the first numerater and last denominater, all the numerater and denominater will cancelled out one another. Ans. 5/(n+5)
Sol) the clock normally has 12 hr
three parts x,y,z
x+y+z=12
x=y+z
2x=12
x=6
so the largest part is 6 hrs
Sol) 4/5 full tank= 12 mile
1 full tank= 12/(4/5)
1/3 full tank= 12/(4/5)*(1/3)= 5 miles
Sol) 160 miles= 330 min
1 mile = 330/160
80 miles=(330*80)/160=165 min.
Sol) (x+10)=(x+35)/2
solving the eqn we get x=15
Sol) Assume 1
1* 3 = 3
1*1/3=1/3
so he has to got 1/3
this is the exact answer
ans is 40 c.
Sol) let x be the highest temp. then,
x+x/2+x/6=100.
therefore, x=60 which is the highest temp
and 100-x=40 which is the lowest temp.
Sol) let feul consumed in coming up is x. thus equation is: x+1.25x=4.5ans:2gallons
Sol) Two people work together in 24 mins.
So, their one day work is
(1/A)+(1+B)=(1/24)
One man can complete the work in 40mins
one man's one day work (1/B)= (1/40)
Now,
(1/A)=(1/24)-(1/40)
(1/A)=(1/60)
So, A can complete the work in 60 mins.
Sol) 40% employees are male if 60% of supervisors are male so for 100% is 26.4%so the probability is 0.264
Sol) the minimum number of wieghtings needed is just 5.as shown below
(1) 80->30-30
(2) 15-15
(3) 7-7
(4) 3-3
(5) 1-1
2x+3y+4z=15
3x+2y+z=10 adding
5x+5y+5z=25
x+y+z=5 that is for 1 orange, 1 bannana and 1 apple requires 5Rs.
so for 3 orange, 3 bannana and 3 apple requires 15Rs.
i.e. 3x+3y+3z=15
Sol) odele discovered that there are 204 squares on the board We found that you would add the different squares - 1 + 4 + 9 + 16+ 25 + 36 + 49 + 64.
Also in 3*3 tic tac toe board what is the total no of squares
Ans 14 ie 9+4(bigger ones)+1 (biggest one)
If you ger 100*100 board just use the formula
the formula for the sum of the first n perfect squares is
n x (n + 1) x (2n + 1)
______________________
6
if in this formula if you put n=8 you get your answer 204
Sol) Faster one can do 1/2 of work in one hourslower one can do 1/3 of work in one hourboth they do (1/2+1/3=5/6) th work in one hour.so work will b finished in 6/5=1.2 hour i e 1 hour 12 min.
Here is the answer Find of 42 % of 20 rs with respect to 70 (i.e 28 + 42) ==> (42 * 20 )/70 ==> 12 Rs
the answer is 138 matches
Sol) since one player gets a bye in each round,he will reach the finals of the tournament without playing a match. http://www.ChetanaS.org
therefore 137 matches should be played to detemine the second finalist from the remaining 138 players(excluding the 1st player)
therefore to determine the winner 138 matches shd be played.
Sol) Vol. of rect. plate= 8*11*2=176
area of rod=(22/7)*(8/2)*(8/2)=(352/7)
vol. of rod=area*length=vol. of plate
so length of rod= vol of plate/area=176/(352/7)=3.5
3 ft 7.5 inches
ans:10min:::assume he started at 1:00,so at 1:30 he met cart. He returned home at 2:00.so it took him 1 hour for the total jorney.by doing this he saved 20 min.so the actual time if the plane is not late is 1 hour and 20 min.so the actual time of plane is at 1:40.The cart travelled a time of 10 min before it met him.so the plane is 10 min early.

Model Recent interview questions Papers conducted Lucknow on 11 March 2008
TCS PAPER ON 11th MARCH 2008 AT LUCKNOW Hi friends i am RAHUL from INTEGRAL UNIVERSITY . ..i have got placed with TCS , thru campus placements……out of 207 .students 98 cleared written and finally 32 selected. n i am thankful to each one of u for being so informative thru this group n specially to all those who provided me with info abt TCS in last few days… thr selection procedure. 1. u need to hv first class throughtout(10th,12th,grad) Paper pattern 2nd section is Quantitative…(40 mins 32 ques).. FOR ANTONYMS N SYNONYMS REMEMBER- there is no sectional cut off and no upper or lower cut off neither any type of negative marking……so attempt all the question….. QUANTITATIVE SECTION 1) If log 0.317=0.3332 and log 0.318=0.3364 then find log 0.319 ? 2) A box of 150 packets consists of 1kg packets and 2kg packets. Total weight of box is 264kg. How many 2kg packets are there ? 3) My flight takes of at 2am from a place at 18N 10E and landed 10 Hrs later at a place with coordinates 36N70W. What is the local time when my plane landed? 4) A plane moves from 9°N40°E to 9°N40°W. If the plane starts at 10 am and takes 8 hours to reach the destination, find the local arrival time ? 5) The size of the bucket is N kb. The bucket fills at the rate of 0.1 kb per millisecond. A programmer sends a program to receiver. There it waits for 10 milliseconds. And response will be back to programmer in 20 milliseconds. How much time the program takes to get a response back to the programmer, after it is sent? Please tell me the answer with explanation. Very urgent. 6) A file is transferred from one location to another in 'buckets'. The size of the bucket is 10 kilobytes. Each bucket gets filled at the rate of 0.0001 kilobytes per millisecond. The transmission time from sender to receiver is 10 milliseconds per bucket. After the receipt of the bucket the receiver sends an acknowledgement that reaches sender in 100 milliseconds. Assuming no error during transmission, write a formula to calculate the time taken in seconds to successfully complete the transfer of a file of size N kilobytes. 7) A fisherman's day is rated as good if he catches 9 fishes, fair if 7 fishes and bad if 5 fishes. He catches 53 fishes in a week n had all good, fair n bad days in the week. So how many good, fair n bad days did the fisher man had in the week
2. engineering student then 60% n above
3.if post grad(MCA) 60% n above
1- set has three sections
a> English(10 antonyms n 10 syno..)…( 32 marks 20 mins)
b> Reading comprehension passages and comleting sentence(6 + 6)marks
3rd section is Critical reasoning..(30 mins 12 ques..)
just go through the barrons 12 edition .but i think thats too much so its better not to worried about the antonyms and synonyms .they are too tough and dont waste ur time in that becoz the time alloted for this section is just 20 minutes…….and you have to complete the reading comprehension and sentence completion as well…………..
they are just repeating these section every time some of the questions are TCS PAPER ON 19th JANUARY 2008
Sol) log 0.317=0.3332 and log 0.318=0.3364, then
log 0.319=log0.318+(log(0.318-0.317)) = 0.3396
Sol) x= 2 kg Packs
y= 1 kg packs
x + y = 150 ………. Eqn 1
2x + y = 264 ………. Eqn 2
Solve the Simultaneous equation; x = 114
so, y = 36
ANS : Number of 2 kg Packs = 114.
6:00 am b) 6:40am c) 7:40 d) 7:00 e) 8:00
Sol) The destination place is 80 degree west to the starting place. Hence the time difference between these two places is 5 hour 20 min. (=24hr*80/360).
When the flight landed, the time at the starting place is 12 noon (2 AM + 10 hours).
Hence, the time at the destination place is 12 noon - 5:20 hours = 6: 40 AM
Sol) Since it is moving from east to west longitide we need to add both
ie,40+40=80
multiply the ans by 4
=>80*4=320min
convert this min to hours ie, 5hrs 20min
It takes 8hrs totally . So 8-5hr 20 min=2hr 40min
So the ans is 10am+2hr 30 min
=>ans is 12:30 it will reach
Sol) see it doesn't matter that wat the time is being taken to fill the bucket.after reaching program it waits there for 10ms and back to the programmer in 20 ms.then total time to get the response is 20ms +10 ms=30ms…it's so simple….
(n/1000)*(n/10)*10+(n/100)….as i hv calculated…~~!not 100% sure
Ans:4 good, 1 fair n 2 bad days
Sol) Go to river catch fish
4*9=36
7*1=7
2*5=10
36+7+10=53…
take what is given 53
good days means — 9 fishes so 53/9=4(remainder=17) if u assume 5 then there is no chance for bad days.
fair days means —– 7 fishes so remaining 17 — 17/7=1(remainder=10) if u assume 2 then there is no chance for bad days.
bad days means ——-5 fishes so remaining 10—10/5=2days.
Ans: 4 good, 1 fair, 2bad. ==== total 7 days.
x+y+z=7——— eq1
9*x+7*y+5*z=53 ——-eq2
multiply eq 1 by 9,
9*x+9*y+9*z=35 ————-eq3
from eq2 and eq3
2*y+4*z=10—–eq4
since all x,y and z are integer i sud put a integer value of y such that z sud be integer in eq 4 …..and ther will be two value y=1 or 3 then z = 2 or 1 from eq 4
for first y=1,z=2 then from eq1 x= 4
so 9*4+1*7+2*5=53…. satisfied
now for second y=3 z=1 then from eq1 x=3
so 9*3+3*7+1*5=53 ……satisfied
so finally there are two solution of this question
(x,y,z)=(4,1,2) and (3,3,1)…

TCS interview questions papers on May 19th, 2008
PSYCHOMETRY GROUPING The 150 questions are grouped depending on the nature of the question. I would like BEST of LUCK to you guys
to clearly state that this version has no guarantee to be the correct version. Actually
some 30/150 questions fall in to many groups and the line differentiating them is very
thin. I have tried my best to group them.
Talking about the groups- they are 11 in number. As I have mentioned- this is not the
only correct version- but this can be one. So if u feel u can group them more finer u
can subdivide them in to many more.
I would advise u strictly to go through the whole set of groups and define urselvesthe
key to psychometric test is to define who u are and then start looking in to deeply
the questions.
Each group represents a character or personality- u will decide which of the following
attributes u would like to include in ur personality.
GROUP 1 LEADERSHIP QUALITIES
2 3 28 39 53 73 103 128
GROUP 2 SOCIABLE NATURE
9 13 14 24 29 44 49 54 59 64 70 74 79 88 89 109 114 119 139
GROUP 3 BALANCED PSYCHE people who are balanced- not wavery in their
moods etc.. etc…
10 15 16 35 40 41 45 52 55 60 65 75 80 95 105 130 145 148
GROUP 4 DAYDREAMERS
50 100 107 125
GROUP 5 PATIENCE AND ATTRIBUTE OF TAKING RID=GHT DECISIONS
AFTER CAREFUL ANALYSIS
22 27 47 67 72 86 92 96 102 112 117 126 134 136 137 140 142 147
GROUP 6 EASYGOING AND CAREFREE NATURED PERSONALITIES
20 25 32 57 68 77 82 87 90 98 115 123 127 132 135 150
GROUP 7 ENTHUSIASTIC PERSONALITIES
17 42 66 78 85 99 110 141 144
GROUP 8 SLOW SLUGGISH DULL PERSONALITIES
11 21 30 31 36 46 51 56 61 76 81 91 106 116 101 146
GROUP 9 SERIOUS PERSONALITIES
12 26 37 62 97 111 120 124 143
GROUP 10 STRONG FULL OF ENERGY
121 122 131
GROUP 11 DIFFIDANT (shy, not able to ask even the most required thing…..
etc..)
18 19 23 33 34 38 43(34) 48 58 63(34) 69 83 84(38) 93 104(34) 108 113
118(34) 129 133 149
read the following before proceeding
the last group is bigger and within the group itself a small subgrouping is done- the
no. in the bracket is the parent question to which the no outside the bracket belongs
to- hope u understand
strictly- this may not be 100 % right as many questions look very similar. So go thru
and make alterations if u feel so.
in each groups there r 2 kinds of questions- if u say yes to some and no to others u
will land up at the same definition. So its ur common sense to understand the
affirmative and negative tones of each question and answer accordingly- u shld know
when to answer no and yes for each question in the same groupsome
groups itself are opposite to each other and can be grouped together- but I
have separated them on the basis of finer inferences eg:- serious persons cant be
easy going type. if u say no to any question on serious group question u will land as
an easygoing personality and vice versa- so they can be put under a single groupbut
some finer points prevent from doing so

WIPRO FREE PLACEMENT PAPERS ON 19th FEBRUARY AT GWALIOR As usual its paper has three parts: 1) VERBAL (ENGLISH) 2) TECHNICAL (APTITUDE AND REASONING) 3) IT AWARENESS, C++, AND OTHER normal questions of computer) I suggest that u need to have a "SOME" good knowledge of English, Reasoning and languages. In English questions were like opposite meaning, analogies etc. U can read BARRON'S for practice. In technical the questions were a bit tough I seriously felt that. In it awareness they asked some outputs of programs and questions like which of the following is not an antivirus: AVG, XARGON, SYMANTEC, PANDA. Really the technical interview is tough. they asked every thing either u have mentioned it or not in your CV.so be prepared. don't bluff them. they will ask u some puzzles also.i was interviewed by a sir and mine friends by lady panel. He asked me to make a c prog.to swap numbers without temp. Variable. HR is just to check your confidence level and skills. SO BE COOL AT THAT TIME. JUST CROSS CHECK YOUR INFORMATION U HAVE GIVEN.

This time they r out wid a package of 2.9lacs. Let me first of all thank freshersworld.com for helping me out wid the preparation style n believe me guys, crackin tech mahindra is not a tough job. We did not have an online exam for the aptitude. Apti had a set of 75Q which r to be solved in 60mins. It consisted of 5 sections: The verbal sections were really easy. Dont waste ur time in preparing 4 these. It took me just 15mins to solve the 45Q of these section. The quanti part was really tough. In the remaining 45mins, I could solve only bout 15-20Qs. Try n solve Shakuntala Devi puzzles for these. Lso dont ignore R.S.Agarwal. As there wasnt negative marking, I blindly answered the rest!!! The results were put up in bout 20mins n out of 80 students, 36 were selected. Then ftr about an hour, v were asked to fill up a form n thn v had our tech interview. I was asked 24Q in TI n I had to face the interviewer for bout 30mins!!!!!!! Just note dat they just want to test ur communication skills.Moreover d interviewer was frm EXTC n knew nothing bout programming, automata, etc (Dats my pure luck.) After this v had a PI round (just a formality). The questions were d same like, intro, strengths, y TM, what did u learn frm d presentation? Latest 2008 Latest Patni Computer Systems Interview Questions and Answers
I would like to share my experience with all of u here. Having cleared three challenging rounds of tests now I am a Patniite. As usual first we had the written test for 70 min whose pattern is as follows: Nearly 120 to 130 attended this test n 80 were selected for next round Second was the GD.. Nearly 45 were selected to next round Finally we had the Personal interview.. when I heard my name being read out in the finalist I was fully pleasure filled….Thank God…..Thanks to my parents…..
Three sections:
1.verbal 15 questions
2.Analytical 15 questions
3.Quantitative 30 questions
The verbal was like filling up the blanks… it covered articles, prepositions,and some common mistakes that we usually commit while using English (eg: like we say today evening instead of this evening).This section was quite easy dont take more than 10 min.
Analytical was also easier..here the logical thinking will help u more..this was my favourite part..very easy questions and I took last 10 min to solve this section..questions like relation puzzle,cubes puzzle,round table arrangement puzzle were present.
Here comes the most important section..they themself asked us to concentrate more on this part…I found it a bit tough..but remembering formulas and some technical methods of solving will make it easier..questions were from R.S.Agarwal covering percentage,proportion(especially milk water problem),profit or loss,SI…nearly 10 out of 30 were profit loss problem…
we were grouped as 10 members per team..we introduced ourselves n they asked us to give pnts why GD..when I gave my point I was appreciated n this gave me a good start.. then they asked us why Patni n why we choose computer field… then they gave us the topic.. r topic was 'Is China a threat to Indian software company'..they look only that we open up in delivering our points..Initialising alone wont help..infact the person who initiated in r team was rejected.. the main reason is he gave only one point n remained quite for the rest of the discussion… so key poi nt to be remembered for success in this section is be clear with ur points grab the chance to speak up, encourage ur team members who r quite to speak up(this shows ur leadership quality which pleases them )
this is the coolest part…r Hr was cool enough.. a feel like speaking with a friend..
first ques to give the study history and family background..
one interesting thing happened….. instead of saying "I have a younger sister", I said it as "I have a younger daughter".. then we both of us laughed.. then I had few questions from technical part..I answered them well…
finally he asked "Do u have ne ques??". this was a nice chance for me..I asked him three questions..when I entered he mentioned tat compared to all I did the quantitative part more better so I asked him the marks which I scored in aps.. then I asked what they expected from a fresher.. he gave a big lecture n one thing he stressed is tat they expect the communication.. finally I asked him about my performance .. he gave some tips to improve my skills… thats it…
Nearly 25 were selected finally
Wish U all to experience the same joy…Hope to meet U all soon at Patni……

2008 jun L & T infotech latest Placement Papers Questions
The first one was Written test which in turn consisted of: Quants Reasoning Verbal Quants covered in the paper was in RS agarwal book and the chapters include Chain rule, Pipes and Cisterns, Boats and Streams, Data interpretation, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Time and Distance, etc.., Reasoning consisted of Blood relations, Venn Diags, Puzzles, Arithmetic Reasoning, and Statements and Assumptions. This was also from RS agarwal I suppose. Verbal was tough as expected. Synonyms, Antonyms, Reading Comprehension, prepositions, Error Finding, Correction of incorrect sentences, these things constituted the main part of the question paper. There is also sectional cutoff so be careful. All my certificates were checked before I entered the technical+HR round. Interview Questions were not tough. Questions were from C, Micro Processor, Communication Systems(as I am ECE) and some were from my Project. All questions were as expected: Why software field ? Whay L & T infotech ? What is meant by recursion ? Give me the factorial program using recursion and explain it clearly Give me the Architecture of 8086 What are Register pairs Define ALE How many pins are there in multiplexing circuit And some questions were from project All the best for everyone. I succeeded only because of my friends encouragement and my parents encouragement, and I would like to thank them at this moment. Luck also plays an important role in getting placed, Any ways Best of Luck !

Most recent Infosys Interview Questions and AnswersPapers 3 April 2008
Hello everyone. Infosys visited University College of Engineering, RTU, Kota on 3rd April 2008. This time once again they had the same selection procedure, with written exam being the main filter. With just over 200 candidates appearing for the exam only 59 made through it and then 54 were able to convert it into final selections. Exam was in two parts: General Aptitude: English: All in all, a candidate must have a good command over the language and just going through the Articles, Prepositions etc. on the last day won't work. After written exam, only HR of about 15-20 min on an average were taken which include very general HR questions, specially related to the CV and the candidate's personal life only. Those 5 who were not selected were also interviewed more than once, this might be because they were trying to give them another chance. Anyways, 54 were selected in the end. To summarise, Infosys selection needed just good aptitude and better language command, so make sure that you acquire both well before Infosys. All the Best.
1.General Aptitude,
2.English
1. 2 not so easy Logical Reasoning questions (which contained 10 questions).
2. 5 very easy series completion.
3. 5 syllogisms
4. No Blood relation questions!!
1. 2 RCs
2. 7-8 choosing the correct sentence
3. Filling the right word
4. Theme Detection

ACCENTURE PAPER ON 7th SEPTEMBER 2007 Hi "T"anmay I am frm Indore IPS coll… Accenture had a written exam in Inodre in my coll on 7th Sept and around 2000 ppl appeared.. it was a off campus stuff so very few got selected.. hardly 200.. I was one of them… then we had our interview, GD and process in Bhopal. There was a written exam. a GD and 2 interviews.. techincal and HR. The written had 3 section and they were the same as previoius papers so do go through as many papers u can.. and wat i did was i went thru this site that was all and i got all wat i needed.. so check everything here. Then there was a GD first and the topic i had was "Should religion be brought in Education"… some other topics were "Cricket or hockey which shud be national game"… "E-Learning Vs. Conventional Learning".. The GD was a round where they notice u alot so be confident.. be alert and active… all u need is a bit of fluent English and confidence… talk the right thing and jus do enough so that u come in notice that shud do it. jus be confident and fluent.. thats wat i found the key point… we were 12 ppl put of which only 3 got thru including ME!!! After the GD some ppl had HR some techincal… I had my techincal firsrt and since I am from Computers branch .. he aked me alot frm my subjects… like… Data communication (OSI)… Software Engg(SDLC)… techincal was for real and it was good… he made a Binary unsorted tree on paper and asked me to sort it with the whole procedure… then after that he wrote a matrix 3×3 ka contaning 123456789 and asked me to write the transpose of it.. i was happy at the simple Ques. but jus as i wrote it he said.. now write a C code to do the same…but fortunately i was able to do it… so have some practicle and clear approach.. thats wat they notice.. ur approach to a problem… he also asked abt OOPs concepts and its main points… then abt project and also if u have like a bit less % in ur 10th or 12th .. then be prepared to make up for it.. i had 69% in 12th and 60% in 10th so he siad "why so less in 10 12″ … i said "Sir i was young and not focused… but with time i realised the importance of education and responsibilties and so started improving myself… and so on… After taht i had my HR which was hardly 5mins.. he asked abt me.. my background.. if i am ok with any terms and services…. and he asked me abt any year gap.. well ppl i have a Year back in my career after 2nd yr.. so i told him yes i do and gave a valid reason for it too… and it did it all.. before i was worried that a year gap mite lessen my chances.. but Accenture still took me means.. its ur personality and knowledge that matters and not marks.. provided u staisfy them.. and yes after the back my marks always went higher and i have a 70.4% degree in hand now!!… anyways don worry abt gaps and be confided!!! Well after 5000 ppl apearing .. hardly 80 go selected and I am one of them.. :)!!! To sum up i wud like to say.. be prepared for all kind of written exams with time management skills… be very confident alert and active in GD… have knwloedge of ur subjects… and remmber when u go to the interview… keep in mind.. its they who want a employee and not u who want a job… So be confident and show that grace in ur face,, with a smile to make them feel pleasant… so best of luck to all hope this was help and see u all there take care!!!

1. Two pencils costs 8 cents, then 5 pencils cost how much
Sol: 2 pencils è 8 cents => 1 pencil è 4 cents
Therefore 5 pencils cost = 5 * 4 = 20 cents
Sol: (A+B) can do the work in = 1/24 min.
A alone can do the same work in = 1/40 min.
B alone can do the same work in = (A+B)'s – A's = 1/24 – 1/40 = 1/60
Therefore, b can do the same work in = 60 min
Sol Before the trip, car is filled with = 4 ½ gallon of oil
Let 'X' be the quantity of fuel consumed for the trip in one direction
The fuel consumed while going = X + ¼
The fuel consumed while coming = X
Therefore, the fuel consumed for the trip = (X + ¼) + X = 4 ½
ð 2X + ¼ = 4 ½ => 2X = 4 ½ - ¼ => 2X = 4 ¼ => X= 2. approx
Therefore the fuel consumed while coming = 2 gallon
Sol: 40 deg.
5. A person, who decided to go to weekend trip should not exceed 8 hours driving in a day. Average speed of forward journey is 40 m/h. Due to traffic in Sundays, the return journey average speed is 30 m/h. How far he can select a picnic spot?
a) 120 miles
b) Between 120 and 140 miles
c) 160 miles
Answer: 120 miles
Sol: Let 'x' be the speed limit
Person 'A' was fined for exceeding the speed limit by = 10mph
Person 'B' was fined for exceeding the speed limit by = twice of 'A'
= 2*10mph=20mph given that the second person was traveling at the speed of 35mph => 35mph – 20mph = 15mph
Therefore the speed limit is =15 mph

IBM Placement Papers of 2008 10th May
hello everyone, this is the pattern of placement paper for ibm global which came to my campus on 10th May . 192 out of 390 were selected for GD round and 34 got eliminated after GD. In all 114 were finally selected which was a record for them as well as for my college. written test consisted of three section first one was verbal reasoning which consisted of some articles n prepositions. A reading comprehension was also asked, this was tricky one and no question could be answered directly. there were 10 questions in all. second section was aptitude related. Believe me it was the easiest test i ever gave. there were different sections. in all 35 questions were to be answered.5 were related to venn diagram prob,there was a section about binary nos.$ denoted 1 and @ denoted 0.all we had to do was turn each given relation to its binary equivalent and then replace each 1 by $ and each 0 by @.5 questions were about logical reasoning,20 questions were general questions like time, man power n probability questions, very simple u can do them at one go if u hav average iq. The third section consisted of technical questions,3 were c lang related,3 on unix,2 on data structure n 2 on dbms specially sql. GD was more of elimination rather than selection, make it a point to speak some good points and do speak fr some time . just speak and u r thru. Personal interview hr: hav a seat mr.abhinav hr: so mr. abhinav u r frm electrical stream and u r having such a good cgpa then y u want to go to IT sector hr: ok wat all subjects hav u read hr: so u know c lang.. hr: okk ,so how much u rate urself in c hr: really,so can u tel me algorithm used by google search engine… hr: ya sure try try hr: so u knw wats binary search hr: tel me if i giv u a array of 1000 nos,all in ascending order in hw many iterations will binary search b completed? hr: yes thts good ,i m impressed hr: u told me u r very good in prog… can u supprt ur claim. hr: good so what all programs u did.. hr: wats diff btwn do while n while hr: wats pointer hr: ok so do u want to ask us any question.. hr: u gav bangalore as ur preference can u tel y? hr: thank u abhinav it was very nice meeting u see clearing ibm is very easy if u hav good pointer or if hav good marks in their written test, mine score was 43 out of 55 ,highest ws 48 (can b higher this is best to my knowledge) and i think cut off was 35(can b lower also). its easy fr girls ,if girls r in interview its vry rare they will b eliminated (they prefer girls). I don't think they had sectional cut off, they will make u write essay but its hardly ever read bfr interview. all the best ,believe me they hav easiest written test if u comp with othrs, wipro recruitment process is very tough, infy takes nearly all who clear their written n accenture pattern is same as tht of ibm(exactly same)
hr: wats ur name
me: sir abhinav
me: thank u sir
me: sir before coming to this col i was not knowing wats good for me and where my interest lies.after coming here i tried my hands on programming n found tht i m quite good at it and it intersts me very much,i think u can only grow in tht field in which u hav interest.
me: sir i hv read fundamental of c prog,8085 microprocessor, digital circuits…(always mak it a point to tel only those subjects which involve logic or programming, try to skip core subjects lik power sys n control sys fr electrical…he will stop u after u tel him 3 , 4 subjects)
me: yes sir
me: sir i m the best in this col regarding algorithm development, infact i m sure i can compete with any comp. science student regarding logic development(believe me u shld b confident enough to say tht, it was a risk n i took it but if u r not tht good in c just say tht u knw basics of c…or whatever u feel is appropriate)
me:( was bit nervous) sir i dont knw exactly bt i can try..
me:blah blah blah
me:(tht was very easy) blah blah blah
me: sir 10 because 2 to pwr 10 is 1024 …
me: thank u sir
me: yes sir i hav won one c programming contest n was 11 in c online comp.. out of 200 odd teams.
me: told him and then he asked me to explain one of the prog..was quite easy
me: (told was easy)
me: (easy)
me: askd 1-2 questions,(if thy ask u this questions its quite sure u r thru…)
me: gave sm funda(never say thers more oppurtunity or smthng lik tht.
me: thank u sir ,it was mine pleasure.

DBA Interview Questions
Sean Hull wrote a few interview questions for Database Journal dealing mostly with Oracle: The database interview answers are all listed on Database Journal Web site
- Why is a UNION ALL faster than a UNION?
- What are some advantages to using Oracle's CREATE DATABASE statement to create a new database manually?
- What are three rules of thumb to create good passwords? How would a DBA enforce those rules in Oracle? What business challenges might you encounter?
- Describe the Oracle Wait Interface, how it works, and what it provides. What are some limitations? What do the db_file_sequential_read and db_file_scattered_read events indicate?
- How do you return the top-N results of a query in Oracle? Why doesn't the obvious method work?
- Can Oracle's Data Guard be used on Standard Edition, and if so how? How can you test that the standby database is in sync?
- What is a database link? What is the difference between a public and a private database link? What is a fixed user database link?

Does Java have destructors
Does Java have destructors? Garbage collector does the job working in the background What does the "abstract" keyword mean in front of a method? A class? Abstract keyword declares either a method or a class. Are Java constructors inherited ? If not, why not? You cannot inherit a constructor. That is, you cannot create a instance of a subclass using a constructor of one of it's superclasses. One of the main reasons is because you probably don't want to overide the superclasses constructor, which would be possible if they were inherited. By giving the developer the ability to override a superclasses constructor you would erode the encapsulation abilities of the language.
Java does not have destructors; but it has finalizers that does a similar job.
the syntax is
public void finalize(){
}
if an object has a finalizer, the method is invoked before the system garbage collects the object
If a method has a abstract keyword in front of it,it is called abstract method.Abstract method hs no body.It has only arguments and return type.Abstract methods act as placeholder methods that are implemented in the subclasses.
Abstract classes can't be instantiated.If a class is declared as abstract,no objects of that class can be created.If a class contains any abstract method it must be declared as abstract

FAQ How many different types of JDBC drivers are present
How many different types of JDBC drivers are present? Discuss them. There are four JDBC driver types. Access specifiers: "public", "protected", "private", nothing? In the case of Public, Private and Protected, that is used to describe which programs can access that class or method: Public – any other class from any package can instantiate and execute the classes and methods. Protected – only subclasses and classes inside of the package can access the classes and methods. Private – the original class is the only class allowed to executed the methods. What does the "final" keyword mean in front of a variable? A method? A class? FINAL for a variable : value is constant Does Java have "goto"? No. What synchronization constructs does Java provide? How do they work? The two common features that are used are: Does Java have multiple inheritance? Java does not support multiple inheritence directly but it does thru the concept of interfaces. How does exception handling work in Java? 1.It separates the working/functional code from the error-handling code by way of try-catch clauses.
Type 1: JDBC-ODBC Bridge plus ODBC Driver:
The first type of JDBC driver is the JDBC-ODBC Bridge. It is a driver that provides JDBC access to databases through ODBC drivers. The ODBC driver must be configured on the client for the bridge to work. This driver type is commonly used for prototyping or when there is no JDBC driver available for a particular DBMS.
Type 2: Native-API partly-Java Driver:
The Native to API driver converts JDBC commands to DBMS-specific native calls. This is much like the restriction of Type 1 drivers. The client must have some binary code loaded on its machine. These drivers do have an advantage over Type 1 drivers because they interface directly with the database.
Type 3: JDBC-Net Pure Java Driver:
The JDBC-Net drivers are a three-tier solution. This type of driver translates JDBC calls into a database-independent network protocol that is sent to a middleware server. This server then translates this DBMS-independent protocol into a DBMS-specific protocol, which is sent
to a particular database. The results are then routed back through the middleware server and sent back to the client. This type of solution makes it possible to implement a pure Java client. It also makes it possible to swap databases without affecting the client.
Type 4: Native-Protocol Pure Java Driver
These are pure Java drivers that communicate directly with the vendor's database. They do this by converting JDBC commands directly into the database engine's native protocol. This driver has no additional translation or middleware layer, which improves performance tremendously.
What does the "static" keyword mean in front of a variable? A method? A class? Curly braces {}?
static variable
- means a class level variable
static method:
-does not have "this". It is not allowed to access the not static members of the class.
can be invoked enev before a single instance of a class is created.
eg: main
static class:
no such thing.
static free floating block:
is executed at the time the class is loaded. There can be multiple such blocks. This may be useful to load native libraries when using native methods.
eg:
native void doThis(){
static{
System.loadLibrary("myLibrary.lib");
}
FINAL for a method : cannot be overridden
FINAL for a class : cannot be derived
A final variable cannot be reassigned,
but it is not constant. For instance,
final StringBuffer x = new StringBuffer()
x.append("hello");
is valid. X cannot have a new value in it,but nothing stops operations on the object
that it refers, including destructive operations. Also, a final method cannot be overridden
or hidden by new access specifications.This means that the compiler can choose
to in-line the invocation of such a method.(I don't know if any compiler actually does
this, but it's true in theory.) The best example of a final class is
String, which defines a class that cannot be derived.
1. Synchronized keyword - Used to synchronize a method or a block of code. When you synchronize a method, you are in effect synchronizing the code within the method using the monitor of the current object for the lock.
The following have the same effect.
synchronized void foo() {
}
and
void foo() {
synchronized(this) {
}
If you synchronize a static method, then you are synchronizing across all objects of the same class, i.e. the monitor you are using for the lock is one per class, not one per object.
2. wait/notify. wait() needs to be called from within a synchronized block. It will first release the lock acquired from the synchronization and then wait for a signal. In Posix C, this part is equivalent to the pthread_cond_wait method, which waits for an OS signal to continue. When somebody calls notify() on the object, this will signal the code which has been waiting, and the code will continue from that point. If there are several sections of code that are in the wait state, you can call notifyAll() which will notify all threads that are waiting on the monitor for the current object. Remember that both wait() and notify() have to be called from blocks of code that are synchronized on the monitor for the current object.
We can make a class implement a number of interfaces if we want to achieve multiple inheritence type of functionality of C++.
2.It allows a clean path for error propagation. If the called method encounters a situation it can't manage, it can throw an exception and let the calling method deal with it.
3.By enlisting the compiler to ensure that "exceptional" situations are anticipated and accounted for, it enforces powerful coding.
4.Exceptions are of two types: Compiler-enforced exceptions, or checked exceptions. Runtime exceptions, or unchecked exceptions. Compiler-enforced (checked) exceptions are instances of the Exception class or one of its subclasses — excluding the RuntimeException branch. The compiler expects all checked exceptions to be appropriately handled. Checked exceptions must be declared in the throws clause of the method throwing them — assuming, of course, they're not being caught within that same method. The calling method must take care of these exceptions by either catching or declaring them in its throws clause. Thus, making an exception checked forces the us to pay heed to the possibility of it being thrown. An example of a checked exception is java.io.IOException. As the name suggests, it throws whenever an input/output operation is abnormally terminated.

What is the difference between an Applet and an Application? A Java application is made up of a main() method declared as public static void that accepts a string array argument, along with any other classes that main() calls. It lives in the environment that the host OS provides. A Java applet is made up of at least one public class that has to be subclassed from java.awt.Applet. The applet is confined to living in the user's Web browser, and the browser's security rules, (or Sun's appletviewer, which has fewer restrictions). The differences between an applet and an application are as follows: Java says "write once, run anywhere". What are some ways this isn't quite true? As long as all implementaions of java are certified by sun as 100% pure java this promise of "Write once, Run everywhere" will hold true. But as soon as various java core implemenations start digressing from each other, this won't be true anymore. A recent example of a questionable business tactic is the surreptitious behavior and interface modification of some of Java's core classes in their own implementation of Java. Programmers who do not recognize these undocumented changes can build their applications expecting them to run anywhere that Java can be found, only to discover that their code works only on Microsoft's own Virtual Machine, which is only available on Microsoft's own operating systems. What is the difference between a Vector and an Array. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both? Vector can contain objects of different types whereas array can contain objects only of a single type. What are java beans? JavaBeans is a portable, platform-independent component model written in the Java programming language, developed in collaboration with industry leaders. It enables developers to write reusable components once and run them anywhere — benefiting from the platform-independent power of Java technology. JavaBeans acts as a Bridge between proprietary component models and provides a seamless and powerful means for developers to build components that run in ActiveX container applications. JavaBeans are usual Java classes which adhere to certain coding conventions: What is RMI? RMI stands for Remote Method Invocation. Traditional approaches to executing code on other machines across a network have been confusing as well as tedious and error-prone to implement. The nicest way to think about this problem is that some object happens to live on another machine, and that you can send a message to the remote object and get a result as if the object lived on your local machine. This simplification is exactly what Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI) allows you to do. Above excerpt is from "Thinking in java". For more information refer to any book on Java. What does the keyword "synchronize" mean in java. When do you use it? What are the disadvantages of synchronization? Synchronize is used when you want to make your methods thread safe. The disadvantage of synchronize is it will end up in slowing down the program. Also if not handled properly it will end up in dead lock. What gives java it's "write once and run anywhere" nature? Java is compiled to be a byte code which is the intermediate language between source code and machine code. This byte code is not platorm specific and hence can be fed to any platform. After being fed to the JVM, which is specific to a particular operating system, the code platform specific machine code is generated thus making java platform independent. What are native methods? How do you use them? Native methods are methods written in other languages like C, C++, or even assembly language. You can call native methods from Java using JNI. Native methods are used when the implementation of a particular method is present in language other than Java say C, C++. To use the native methods in java we use the keyword native What is JDBC? Describe the steps needed to execute a SQL query using JDBC. We can connect to databases from java using JDBC. It stands for Java DataBase Connectivity.
1. Applets can be embedded in HTML pages and downloaded over the Internet whereas Applications have no special support in HTML for embedding or downloading.
2. Applets can only be executed inside a java compatible container, such as a browser or appletviewer whereas Applications are executed at command line by java.exe or jview.exe.
3. Applets execute under strict security limitations that disallow certain operations(sandbox model security) whereas Applications have no inherent security restrictions.
4. Applets don't have the main() method as in applications. Instead they operate on an entirely different mechanism where they are initialized by init(),started by start(),stopped by stop() or destroyed by destroy().
- Vector can expand at run-time, while array length is fixed.
- Vector methods are synchronized while Array methods are not

public native method_a(). This native keyword is signal to the java compiler that the implementation of this method is in a language other than java. Native methods are used when we realize that it would take up a lot of rework to write that piece of already existing code in other language to Java.
Here are the steps:
1. Register the jdbc driver with the driver manager
2. Establish jdbc connection
3. Execute an sql statement
4. Process the results

Before doing these do import java.sql.*
JDBC is java based API for accessing data from the relational databases. JDBC provides a set of classes and interfaces for doing various database operations. The steps are:
Register/load the jdbc driver with the driver manager.
Establish the connection thru DriverManager.getConnection();
Fire a SQL thru conn.executeStatement();
Fetch the results in a result set
Process the results
Close statement/result set and connection object.

What is the difference between StringBuffer and String class? A string buffer implements a mutable sequence of characters. A string buffer is like a String, but can be modified. At any point in time it contains some particular sequence of characters, but the length and content of the sequence can be changed through certain method calls. The String class represents character strings. All string literals in Java programs, such as "abc" are constant and implemented as instances of this class; their values cannot be changed after they are created. Strings in Java are known to be immutable. What it means is that every time you need to make a change to a String variable, behind the scene, a "new" String is actually being created by the JVM. For an example: if you change your String variable 2 times, then you end up with 3 Strings: one current and 2 that are ready for garbage collection. The garbage collection cycle is quite unpredictable and these additional unwanted Strings will take up memory until that cycle occurs. For better performance, use StringBuffers for string-type data that will be reused or changed frequently. There is more overhead per class than using String, but you will end up with less overall classes and consequently consume less memory. Describe, in general, how java's garbage collector works? The Java runtime environment deletes objects when it determines that they are no longer being used. This process is known as garbage collection. The Java runtime environment supports a garbage collector that periodically frees the memory used by objects that are no longer needed. The Java garbage collector is a mark-sweep garbage collector that scans Java's dynamic memory areas for objects, marking those that are referenced. After all possible paths to objects are investigated, those objects that are not marked (i.e. are not referenced) are known to be garbage and are collected. (A more complete description of our garbage collection algorithm might be "A compacting, mark-sweep collector with some conservative scanning".) The garbage collector runs synchronously when the system runs out of memory, or in response to a request from a Java program. Your Java program can ask the garbage collector to run at any time by calling System.gc(). The garbage collector requires about 20 milliseconds to complete its task so, your program should only run the garbage collector when there will be no performance impact and the program anticipates an idle period long enough for the garbage collector to finish its job. Note: Asking the garbage collection to run does not guarantee that your objects will be garbage collected. The Java garbage collector runs asynchronously when the system is idle on systems that allow the Java runtime to note when a thread has begun and to interrupt another thread (such as Windows 95). As soon as another thread becomes active, the garbage collector is asked to get to a consistent state and then terminate. What's the difference between == and equals method? equals checks for the content of the string objects while == checks for the fact that the two String objects point to same memory location ie they are same references. What are abstract classes, abstract methods? Simply speaking a class or a method qualified with "abstract" keyword is an abstract class or abstract method. You create an abstract class when you want to manipulate a set of classes through a common interface. All derived-class methods that match the signature of the base-class declaration will be called using the dynamic binding mechanism. If you have an abstract class, objects of that class almost always have no meaning. That is, abstract class is meant to express only the interface and sometimes some default method implementations, and not a particular implementation, so creating an abstract class object makes no sense and are not allowed ( compile will give you an error message if you try to create one). An abstract method is an incomplete method. It has only a declaration and no method body. Here is the syntax for an abstract method declaration: abstract void f(); If a class contains one or more abstract methods, the class must be qualified an abstract. (Otherwise, the compiler gives you an error message.). It's possible to create a class as abstract without including any abstract methods. This is useful when you've got a class in which it doesn't make sense to have any abstract methods, and yet you want to prevent any instances of that class. Abstract classes and methods are created because they make the abstractness of a class explicit, and tell both the user and the compiler how it was intended to be used.
For example:
abstract class Instrument {
int i; // storage allocated for each
public abstract void play();
public String what() {
return "Instrument";
public abstract void adjust();
}
class Wind extends Instrument {
public void play() {
System.out.println("Wind.play()");
}
public String what() { return "Wind"; }
public void adjust() {}
Abstract classes are classes for which there can be no instances at run time. i.e. the implementation of the abstract classes are not complete. Abstract methods are methods which have no defintion. i.e. abstract methods have to be implemented in one of the sub classes or else that class will also become Abstract.

For example:
abstract class Instrument {
int i; // storage allocated for each
public abstract void play();
public String what() {
return "Instrument";
public abstract void adjust();
}
class Wind extends Instrument {
public void play() {
System.out.println("Wind.play()");
}
public String what() { return "Wind"; }
public void adjust() {}
Abstract classes are classes for which there can be no instances at run time. i.e. the implementation of the abstract classes are not complete. Abstract methods are methods which have no defintion. i.e. abstract methods have to be implemented in one of the sub classes or else that class will also become Abstract.

How can you achieve Multiple Inheritance in Java? Java's interface mechanism can be used to implement multiple inheritance, with one important difference from c++ way of doing MI: the inherited interfaces must be abstract. This obviates the need to choose between different implementations, as with interfaces there are no implementations. interface CanFight { You can even achieve a form of multiple inheritance where you can use the *functionality* of classes rather than just the interface: interface A {
void fight();
interface CanSwim {
void swim();
interface CanFly {
void fly();
class ActionCharacter {
public void fight() {}
class Hero extends ActionCharacter implements CanFight, CanSwim, CanFly {
public void swim() {}
public void fly() {}
}
void methodA();
}
class AImpl implements A {
void methodA() { //do stuff }
}
interface B {
void methodB();
}
class BImpl implements B {
void methodB() { //do stuff }
}
class Multiple implements A, B {
private A a = new A();
private B b = new B();
void methodA() { a.methodA(); }
void methodB() { b.methodB(); }
}
This completely solves the traditional problems of multiple inheritance in C++ where name clashes occur between multiple base classes. The coder of the derived class will have to explicitly resolve any clashes. Don't you hate people who point out minor typos? Everything in the previous example is correct, except you need to instantiate an AImpl and BImpl. So class Multiple would look like this:
class Multiple implements A, B {
private A a = new AImpl();
private B b = new BImpl();
void methodA() { a.methodA(); }
void methodB() { b.methodB(); }
}

Java and C++ interview questions Papers
What are the main differences between Java and C++? Everything is an object in Java( Single root hierarchy as everything gets derived from java.lang.Object). Java does not have all the complicated aspects of C++ ( For ex: Pointers, templates, unions, operator overloading, structures etc..) The Java language promoters initially said "No pointers!", but when many programmers questioned how you can work without pointers, the promoters began saying "Restricted pointers." You can make up your mind whether it's really a pointer or not. In any event, there's no pointer arithmetic. There are no destructors in Java. (automatic garbage collection), Java does not support conditional compile (#ifdef/#ifndef type). Thread support is built into java but not in C++. Java does not support default arguments. There's no scope resolution operator :: in Java. Java uses the dot for everything, but can get away with it since you can define elements only within a class. Even the method definitions must always occur within a class, so there is no need for scope resolution there either. There's no "goto " statement in Java. Java doesn't provide multiple inheritance (MI), at least not in the same sense that C++ does. Exception handling in Java is different because there are no destructors. Java has method overloading, but no operator overloading. The String class does use the + and += operators to concatenate strings and String expressions use automatic type conversion, but that's a special built-in case. Java is interpreted for the most part and hence platform independent What are interfaces? Interfaces provide more sophisticated ways to organize and control the objects in your system. import java.util.*;
The interface keyword takes the abstract concept one step further. You could think of it as a "pure" abstract class. It allows the creator to establish the form for a class: method names, argument lists, and return types, but no method bodies. An interface can also contain fields, but The interface keyword takes the abstract concept one step further. You could think of it as a "pure" abstract class. It allows the creator to establish the form for a class: method names, argument lists, and return types, but no method bodies. An interface can also contain fields, but an interface says: "This is what all classes that implement this particular interface will look like." Thus, any code that uses a particular interface knows what methods might be called for that interface, and that's all. So the interface is used to establish a "protocol" between classes. (Some object-oriented programming languages have a keyword called protocol to do the same thing.) Typical example from "Thinking in Java":
interface Instrument {
int i = 5; // static & final
// Cannot have method definitions:
void play(); // Automatically public
String what();
void adjust();
}
class Wind implements Instrument {
public void play() {
System.out.println("Wind.play()");
public String what() { return "Wind"; }
public void adjust() {}
}

Latest C C++ Java interview questions
Describe what happens when an object is created in Java? Several things happen in a particular order to ensure the object is constructed properly: In Java, you can create a String object as below : String str = "abc"; & String str = new String("abc"); Why cant a button object be created as : Button bt = "abc"? Why is it compulsory to create a button object as: Button bt = new Button("abc"); Why this is not compulsory in String's case? Button bt1= "abc"; It is because "abc" is a literal string (something slightly different than a String object, by-the-way) and bt1 is a Button object. That simple. The only object in Java that can be assigned a literal String is java.lang.String. Important to not that you are NOT calling a java.lang.String constuctor when you type String s = "abc"; For example String x = "abc"; String y = "abc"; refer to the same object. While String x1 = new String("abc"); What is the advantage of OOP? You will get varying answers to this question depending on whom you ask. Major advantages of OOP are:
1. Memory is allocated from heap to hold all instance variables and implementation-specific data of the object and its superclasses. Implementation-specific data includes pointers to class and method data.
2. The instance variables of the objects are initialized to their default values.
3. The constructor for the most derived class is invoked. The first thing a constructor does is call the constructor for its uppercase. This process continues until the constructor for java.lang.Object is called, as java.lang.Object is the base class for all objects in java.
4. Before the body of the constructor is executed, all instance variable initializers and initialization blocks are executed. Then the body of the constructor is executed. Thus, the constructor for the base class completes first and constructor for the most derived class completes last.
String x2 = new String("abc"); refer to two different objects.
1. Simplicity: software objects model real world objects, so the complexity is reduced and the program structure is very clear;
2. Modularity: each object forms a separate entity whose internal workings are decoupled from other parts of the system;
3. Modifiability: it is easy to make minor changes in the data representation or the procedures in an OO program. Changes inside a class do not affect any other part of a program, since the only public interface that the external world has to a class is through the use of methods;
4. Extensibility: adding new features or responding to changing operating environments can be solved by introducing a few new objects and modifying some existing ones;
5. Maintainability: objects can be maintained separately, making locating and fixing problems easier;
6. Re-usability: objects can be reused in different programs

database theory. From its behavior is almost the same as an UNIQUE INDEX, i.e. there may only be one of each value in this column. If you call such an INDEX PRIMARY instead of UNIQUE, you say something about
your table design, which I am not able to explain in few words. Primary Key is a type of a constraint enforcing uniqueness and data integrity for each row of a table. All columns participating in a primary key constraint must possess the NOT NULL property.

Placement Paperon 15th march 2008
Hello frends... this is Sonali Jindal
Written test was held on 15th march 2008
Recruitment process-->
1)Written test
2)Group discussion
3)HR interview
4)Technical inteview
1) Written test
English (easy). this section includes prepositions, synonyms, etc. u need not prepare anythin 4 this section. it's just, whtever english u hav learnt in ur life. Then comes the passage reading part. u wil b given 2 comprehension passages(easy). on the basis of these passages u hav 2 answer the questions. its very TIME CONSUMING. my suggestion wud b read them in the end.
Analytical ability . u must prepare wel 4 this sections. go for Quantitave RS Aggarwal(best buk). don leav chapters like average, time and work, percentage, profit loss, etc. my suggestion wud b 2 study almost all the chapters there in the buk.
Attention to detail(very easy). no need 2 prepare anythin. just needs concentration. u wil b given 3 options wich r very similar 2 each other. u hav 2 find whether they all r exactly same or 2 of them r same or none. 4 example- JJJJEEESCHG JJJJEESCHG JJJJEEESCHG
Then also there r some questions like 0 means * and 1 means $... Thus u hav 2 calculate ($*$)x$**.... (Dont remember exactly). these questions r easy but again TIME CONSUMING. so do them in the end. also questions like if * stands for +, / stands for *, + stands for - and - stands for / then calculate 20/2*2+20-5.
Essay. In 10min u hav 2 write an essay(around 100words). i don think essays r chekd, rest don know. essay topic was "Education system in india".
All in all written test is easy.. but u really need 2 take care of TIME. In the last 5min... i was stil left wit 2 passages and + stands for - type questions. i was so tensed. then first i started reading the questions in the passage an then lookin 4 answers in the passage. i managed 2 do 3-4 questions. then 2min were left,an no time 2 solve questions or read another passgae so i just ticked the left over options. so i blindly attempted 12-15 questions(no negative marking). wen i came out of the room, i was sad that i cudnt read passages neither i cud solve some questions. but i think i did rite by leavin passages 4 the end. bcoz i cud attempt quantitave part. wich other students cudnt. Out of around 5000 students, 600 students cud clear the written test.
2) Group discussion(held on 12 april)
This is an elimination round. many people say it's the most difficult round, but it is not. All u need 2 do is be LOUD and clear. the moderator shud hear ur voice. there were 15 students in 1 grup. an the modertaor askd us 2 choose a topic. but he gav his own topic. my topic was "Role of media". amongst the 15students only 2(includin me) were against the role of media. i said that media is very important so as 2 make people aware abt whts happenin around u, but 2day media is not playin its role properly as it is entering into people's personal lives(kareena an shahid case)....bla bla....
To be different in crowd sometimes u hav 2 be against all the students, aftr all u hav 2 come in limelight. also this helps in carryin on the GD, bcoz if every1 wud hav the same thots then... GD wont continue as no one is against anyone. i read somewhere tht u shud try 2 initiate the gd. i did not initiate, but i was the 2nd person 2 speak. and if u want 2 initiate the GD, make a STRONG point. by just starting u wont get thru. in my grup the person who initiated dint get thru, coz he dint hav strong point an also he dint say a single word aftrwards. try 2 speak in the beginning coz later u mite not get chance 2 speak as it becomes a fish market. its a gud point if u try 2 calm every1. In GD only speakin is not important, u must listen also. there was one student who spoke a alot but dint let others speak. so he was not selectd. also don't point finger or aggressive, u wont get selectd. wenevr u want 2 speak, raise ur hand.. this shows courtsy.
other GD topics were Cinema, Black, Tea or coffee, Reservation.
Around 300 students were elimintaed.
3) HR interview
one can hav HR interview 1st or Tech interview 1st. in my case HR first. my interview went GREAT!! this round is very easy 2 get thru. u need 2 qualitites..GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS and CONFIDENCE. don think u cannot get rejectd in this round. if u don hav either of these 2 qualities.. u r out.
4) Tech Interview
pheeewww...!!! last round. being a computer science student u must knw C++ and DBMS. if he asks abt ur project and u don knw much abt it then speak abt ur project continuously so tht u don stop, in fact he asks u 2 stop. make him sure that u knw everythin abt ur project, so tht he doesnt asks u any further questions on project. he mite ask u ur favourite subject. Prepare ur subject wel.
he askd me:- wich languages u knw?
me:- C++ but i hav interst in DBMS also (as i dint want him 2 ask me on c++)
He:- wich database u hav been workin on?
Me:- sql server 2005
He:- wht do u do on tht?
Me:- fire simple queries.. learnin in colg thz days.. i knw basics (i wantd him 2 ask me basics an not RDBMS--cursors, triggers, etc)
He:- askd me 2 rite select command syntax, all operators, some functions, an gave me one query in wich i had 2 tel whether it was correct or not.
Me:- i gav all answers, but got stuck a lil in the last question in wich i had 2 tel it's corrct or not.
He:- Ok. any queries regardin accenture??
Me:- i askd 2-3 questions, wich intimated me tht perhaps i m in..
So finally i made it. i was so happy.. so relieved. 100 students(round of) finally cleard. i had sat in Wipro, but cudnt clear tech round. an now this company was my next target. Just take care tht if u clear written.. don let the company go off ur hands. coz 2 clear written amongst 1000s is very difficult. an also DON loose hope. If not this company then may b next. "somethin better is waitin 4 u.." and yes LUCK matters alotttttt. u mite come across some strict interviewer, or u mite not hav come in the site of moderator durin GD. LUCK PLAYS A BIG ROLE.
anyways gudluk..!!!! never loose hope :)
